Day 1: Beginning To Live Plant-Based

Yesterday was St. Patrick's Day. While that usually marks a fun day complete with dressing in green suspenders and listening to Great Big Sea (which we did again), it also marked the first day of my new mission: to live a one hundred percent whole food, plant-based, wheat free lifestyle.

This mission, however, does not only include my eating habits. At the same time, I will also be working out every day in accordance with my new book to achieve optimal levels of health, will be continuing my journey towards publishing 5 books in one year, AND will be finding a way to become more recognized as an author in the next two months, so I can purchase our family a new RV to call home so we can continue our RV lifestyle and travel from western Canada to the east coast this summer. We need to be out of the spot we are currently parked in by May 1, 2021, and our rig has no power steering or brakes, as well as a leaky roof...and we are parked by the water with a giant hill to get up upon leaving.

In the past, I have embarked on a plant-based journey with my family, only to find that the need to please others made it increasingly difficult to maintain. Thus, as with "fad diets", the attempts were not successful. Because of this, I have set out solo to make my dreams and new way of life living this way become a reality, while I work on myself and my other goals as well.

So, how was day 1? Well, it went a little something like this.
I slept in much later than usual because I feared the big changes I was about to start making...the kind of fear that grips a person when faced head on with a charging lion. Then I realized it was just my kids fighting. However, I did know that this fear is totally normal when setting out to achieve your biggest life goals. I pushed past it and finally got out of bed to realize that sleeping in gave me a lot less time in my day to do the things I was setting out to do and that I didn't want to fail myself, so every task still had to be completed.

Along with this prolonged start to my day, I realized quickly that I needed to go grocery shopping as well if I was going to eat this way...but I didn't. Instead, I had my morning coffee--the silky cashew milk and cane sugar warming the depths of my soul--converted our RV bed back into a couch (with much grunting and groaning), and did my modified workout because of the low ceiling height in our rig.
I had a pear for breakfast with some nuts, ate some left over asparagus and honey garlic cauliflower for lunch, and rounded out my day with an avocado and some nuts. Yes, I was hungry, but I didn't bend and binge other food, and that's what mattered.
Aside from all of that, I was still not deterred. I had a wonderful day with my family. My boys and I walked through the rain forest, breathing in the fresh ocean air, hearing the birds singing and seeing the crab fishers on the dock bring in their catch of the day. We went to the beach to find "treasures", and I delighted in seeing the joy and excitement on my boys faces throughout our adventures. After two hours, and a pail overflowing with crab shells and other trinkets, we made our way back home for snacks.

The rest of the day was comprised of doing what families do. We watched some Netflix on our phone, had dinner, and listened to my husband play guitar for a while before turning off our generator, and the boys turning in for the night.
I made sure to complete my "To Do" list by publishing a new blog on our 4 Nuts In A Shell web page at 4pm and then my husband and I both worked until 11:05 writing and updating websites, turning into bed feeling completely exhausted! The life of an author is not always glamorous, but it's so rewarding. We are just regular people doing regular things.

For me, day 1 was a success, but I felt I still needed to do better in all aspects of my life. Let's see what tomorrow brings.
